Table of contents: THE CLINICAL PICTURE, THE SEROLOGICAL AND HISTOLOGICAL MANIFESTATIONS AND THE VALUE OF SEVERAL DIAGNOSTIC METHODS HAVE BEEN STUDIED IN 33 CASES OF PATIENTS WITH SARCOIDOSIS. THE CONCLUSIONS OF THIS STUDY IS AS FOLLOWS: A) THERE IS NO ANY OBVIOUS PATHOGNOMONIC CHARACTERISTIC OF THE DISEASE WHICH CAN BE OBSERVED BY PHYSICAL EXAMINATION. B) THE CHEST ROENTGENOGRAM SHOWS SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS IN THE INTRATHORACIC INVOLVEMENT OF THE DISEASE. C) KVEIM REACTION IS POSITIVE ONLY IN SARCOIDOSIS AND THIS IS A SPECIFIC SKIN TEST FOR THE DISEASE. D)FOR THE VALUATION OF CUTANEOUS AVERGY WE HAVE TO USE APPROPRIATE SKIN TEST WITH CONTROLS. E) BIOPSY OF CLINICALLY SUSPICIOUS LESIONS MUST BE DONE BEFORE BIOPSY OF OTHER SITES. F) RANDOM BIOPSY OF MINOR SALIVARY GLAND FOR THE LOWER LIP IS A SIMPLE NON TRAUMATIC AND SAFE TECHNIQUE AND EVALUATED AS A DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE IN ESTABLISHING THE DIAGNOSIS OF SARCOIDOSIS. G) IMMUNOLOGICAL MECHANISMS ARE INVOLVED IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF SARCOIDOSIS. H) AUTOANTIBODIES ARE NOT TRACED IN THE SERA OF SARCOID PATIENTS.
