heal.abstract | The article focuses on Adorno’s radical critique of cultural industry, examining the concept itself as well as its implications, such as the cultural commodities, its ideological character, the calculated incorporation of its clients, and its elimination of the individual subject. Beyond the critical evaluation of Adorno’s conclusions and predictions, this text is looking at their counter-critique and its chief argument that capitalist cultural industry does not merely implicate a mechanical reproduction of the status quo, but that it is even reinforced through criticism, and renewed by its creation of a form of pseudo-pluralism. Cultural industry, therefore, is marked by the transition from sublimation as unfulfilled fulfillment to repressive de-sublimation. | en |
