According to Aristotle, there are three objects of desire in life. Friendship is separated into three varieties that adhere to these three basic objects of love, friendship of utility, friendship of pleasure and finally friendship of virtue. The main concern of Aristotle’s discussion about friendship is the third kind of friendship which is referred to as perfect friendship. The basis of perfect friendship is the mutual love of the good and virtue and the requirements Aristotle makes for true friends are similarity, equality and mutual desire for the other’s good. Aristotle also refers to civic friendship which is a constant activity according to justice. In the Nicomachean Ethics states that the civic association came together for the sake of utility because a man cannot achieve eudaimonia unless his fellow citizens do as well. If fellow citizens think and live virtuously, they will treat justly. And justice is important among friends and citizens as well. People who belong to the same community, they share also the same laws, so they have to act on the basis of justice. Although he claims that politeia is the best constitution, he believes that plethos can run the city better than one man, so in the Politics he refers to the democracy as well. He believes that in case of democracy there is equality and justice among the citizens so that civic friendship which brings trust and reliability in the community can flourish.el
