Breastfeeding is the purest thing a woman intends to do as a mother. However, today, our society is still not prepared to see a mother breastfeeding in public, accusing her with misbehavior and the mother remains unable to deal with the situation. Health professionals, especially nurses should play an important role in promoting breastfeeding and society should be ready to accept it as something natural and expected, because it is a completely healthy and permissible practice for all mothers and their children. Purpose: The nurse can assist in promoting and promote breastfeeding by supporting the mother. Material and Method: Carried international literature review in electronic databases google scholar, pubmed. The material of the study contains articles that published mainly in the last decade in the English and Greek language. Results: Unfortunately the rates of breastfeeding mothers decline and it is not only due to themselves or their families, but the society they live in might set their own rules. For this reason, nurses should ensure that appropriate interventions taken for the mothers, not only to breastfeed but to do it for as long as possible. Conclusions: Mothers, particularly young ones, are surrounded by stress, which might affect their psychology and make unable to breastfeed. Breastfeeding should be part of our everyday lives and its importance should be taught from school and therefore society to understand its significance. Family and health professionals are the ones who could support the mother to breastfeed and should constantly stand by her. Nurses are the ones who would stay close to the mothers and their families and should alert society regarding their work.en
