The reaction of I2 with N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione and benzimidazole-2-thione produced three new charge-transfer complexes. The X-ray crystal structure of {[(MBZIM)2I]+}Β·[I3-}Β·[(MBZIM)I2] reveals the cocrystallization of both a "spoke" and an "iodonium" salt. This is the first such crystal structure ever reported and may lead to the conclusion that a "spoke" and an iodonium salt equilibrium may also be established in solution. Useful conclusions on the mechanism of action of antithyroid drugs are drawn.en
