The reaction of the unexpectedly formed ligand 2-(2'-pyridyl)quinoxaline (L) With CuCl2 in ethanol, followed by recrystallization from methanol, yields the dinuclear copper (II) complex [Cu2Cl4L2]. The crystal structure of this compound shows a bidentate chelating behaviour of L and different (terminal, asymmetric bridging) chloride coordination modes. Some properties of the dimer are also described.en
