Studies performed over the last thirty years on the interaction of Pt-II and Pd-II with histidine and histidyl containing peptides are reviewed here. The first section of this review deals with complexes of the free aminoacid and of its simple derivatives, whereas the second one deals with the complexes of histidyl containing peptides. Since the coordinating behavior of histidyl containing peptides towards Pt-II and Pd-II depends on the histidyl position in the peptide sequence, the compounds described in this second section are also classified in five subsections according to the position of the histidyl residue in the peptide sequence. In the first subsection, complexes of Pt-II and Pd-II with peptides having histidine as the first aminoacid are described. In the second, third and fourth subsections the histidyl residue is in positions 2,3 and 4 respectively in the sequence of the peptides studied. In the final, fifth section, compounds of Pt-II and Pd-II with histidyl containing peptides that cannot be classified in one of the previous subsections are described.en
