For the understanding of the influence of organic complexing additives on crystal growth, we studied the habit modification of Ni(beta-ala)2.2H2O crystals in the presence of glycine. We show that the mixed complex Ni(beta-ala)(gly).2H2O is formed on the crystal surface and causes disruption of one hydrogen bond in the [11BAR0] direction, accounting for the observed habit modification.en
