| heal.abstract | In this paper, I attempt to elucidate the sociopolitical implications of the existential phenomenological understanding of the lived body, as epitomized in the concept of embodiment. I understand embodiment as essentially identical to lived body, as long as the body is perceived as the persistent [personal, but not subjective] project of acquiring a concrete sociopolitical manner. It is no longer construed as a universal, contrasted to the emblematic philosophical universal of the mind; rather, through the elaboration of the concept of embodiment, it is transformed into a socio-culturally specific reality. Moreover, it emerges analytically as an active factor in the social process; it becomes not merely a vessel, but rather an active form, of social significations and powers. The operative directionality of the body, which was rendered visible from the existential phenomenological standpoint, is being refined in the form of concrete sociopolitical functions. In other words, we are tracing, through the theoretical exploration of the process of somatization of patterns of social sense, a full-fledged emancipation of the body from the status of an ineffectual byproduct of the renunciation of Cartesianism, as it becomes an active dimension of a configuration of social objectivities. | en |
