| heal.abstract | Keeping in mind the phenomenon of Neomartyrs in Greek History described in our previous relative work, in this article we endeavour to examine the same phenomenon on the base of recently published Ottoman documents. The above mentioned documents allow us to reach the conclusion that the conquerors had fully understood the importance of the sacrifice of the Christians who refused to be converted to Islam. For this reason the Ottoman authorities tried by all kinds of tortures to force them to accept the Moslem faith, consequently the Turkish nationality. | el |
