heal.abstractThis work's task is to make L. Mavili's poetry useful aw a cultural good for the Greek children’s education. At first we examine Mavili’s thesis concerning the purposes that the school readers should serve. Then we present the system of values contained in his poetic work, as well as the accordance between his words and his acts which is one of the poet’s main characteristics. We also examine Mavili’s acknowledgement as a «hero-poet» and as a model for other people and other citizens. Based on the above facts, we explain the permanent use of Mavili’s works as reading-texts for the students of public schools, from 1913 until today.His work’s duration is proved by the fact that it is an inseparable part of the readers, even though during the years the criteria concerning the writing of school books have changed and so have the aims set by the creators of the official educational policy of each time. Thus, it is obvious that the content and form of Mavili’s poetry meet the standards set for the ideological guidance and culture of Greek children during the last 85 years.en
