heal.abstractOne of the main tasks of the administration of Ioannis Capodistrias was the re-organization of the education system in post-Revolutionary Greece. The Greek government in its endeavours to apply the necessary measures, which the financial and economic situation of the country allowed, had asked for the assistance of Greek thinkers and men of letters. Two of them Grigorios Konstantas and Georgios Gennadios had promptly prepared and presented to the Greek government a concrete plan for the organization of primary and secondary education in Greece. In that plan a detailed account is given concerning the foundation of schools in towns and villages and the system of their administration. Further on, the two scholars expressed their opinion on the necessary books, which each school should be provided. Finally they offer certain solutions on the great problem, which was the finding of the proper funds for the maintenance of the Greek schools. Among other suggestions, G. Konstantas and G. Gennadios proposed certain internal sources of financing; however they strongly advised that greater amounts could be obtained from a number of individual wealthy Greeks living abroad.en
