Building on a series of hypotheses about the ability of cinematic art to shape our relationship with the world around us by constructing psychological and emotional atmospheres and embodied spatial experiences, in this thesis we will try to explore whether the architecture of cinema can help us to understand the architecture of real space even more meaningfully. Through an attempt to analyse a specific example from the field of cinema - Florian Zeller’s film “The Father” (2020), whose protagonist suffers from dementia - and by making use of a set of theoretical and interpretive tools drawn mainly from the work of Juhani Pallasmaa and Stylianos Giamarelos, we will attempt to highlight some of the ways in which cinema can strengthen our connection with space, memory and ourselves, but also, potentially, with others - with those who are different from us.en
