heal.abstractΗ διπλωματική εργασία προτείνει την επανάχρηση της λαϊκής αγοράς του Αγίου Νικολάου, με στόχο την επαναφορά της ως ενεργού δημόσιου χώρου συνάντησης, εμπορίου και κοινωνικής αλληλεπίδρασης. Η αγορά βρίσκεται στην οδό Ανεξαρτησίας, έναν ιστορικό άξονα που συνδέει το εμπορικό κέντρο της πόλης με τη λίμνη. Η περιοχή υπήρξε σημαντικό εμπορικό κέντρο, όπου συνυπήρχαν χριστιανικές, μουσουλμανικές και εβραϊκές κοινότητες. Μετά την πυρκαγιά του 1859, η εμπορική δραστηριότητα μεταφέρθηκε αλλού, οδηγώντας στην υποβάθμιση του χώρου. Η αγορά του Αγίου Νικολάου, η πρώτη οργανωμένη δημοτική αγορά της πόλης το 1930, αποτελεί σημαντικό στοιχείο της συλλογικής μνήμης. Η πρόταση στοχεύει στην αποκατάσταση της κοινωνικότητας και της αστικής συνέχειας, δημιουργώντας έναν ανοιχτό χώρο για συνάντηση, ανταλλαγή και πρόσβαση σε τοπικά προϊόντα. Ο σχεδιασμός βασίζεται στη θεωρία του Bernard Tschumi και αξιοποιεί ελαφριές, ευέλικτες κατασκευές που αναδεικνύουν το ιστορικό αποτύπωμα της περιοχής. Στόχος είναι η επαναφορά της λαϊκής αγοράς στον πυρήνα της σύγχρονης αστικής ζωής.el
heal.abstractThis thesis proposes the adaptive reuse of the Agios Nikolaos street market, aiming to restore it as an active public space for gathering, commerce, and social interaction. The market is located on Anexartisias Street, a historic axis connecting the city's commercial center with the lake. The area was once a major commercial hub where Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities coexisted. Following the fire of 1859, commercial activity gradually shifted elsewhere, leading to the decline of the site. Established in 1930 as the city's first organized municipal market, the Agios Nikolaos Market remains an important part of the city's collective memory. The proposal seeks to restore social interaction and urban continuity by creating an open public space for gathering, exchange, and access to local products. The design is informed by the architectural theory of Bernard Tschumi and employs lightweight, flexible structures that highlight the historical imprint of the area. The overall aim is to reintegrate the street market into the core of contemporary urban life.en
