| heal.abstract | Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή επικεντρώνεται στη μελέτη του Αίαντα του Σοφοκλή από τη σκοπιά της μεταφρασεολογίας. Ειδικότερα, η έρευνα εντάσσεται στον χώρο της Περιγραφικής Μεταφρασεολογίας και ασχολείται με τις συγκριτικές αναλύσεις πρωτοτύπου και νεοελληνικών μεταφράσεων που εκπονήθηκαν από τον 20ο μέχρι και τον 21ο αιώνα σε μια προσπάθεια «να αποκωδικοποιήσει το «μαύρο κουτί» του μεταφραστή». Το έργο δεν μελετάται γραμμικά σύμφωνα με το δομικό σχήμα της τραγωδίας, αλλά το κριτήριο επιλογής των υπό εξέταση χωρίων αποτελούν οι βασικοί άξονες του έργου, τα λεγόμενα «λεξιλόγια». Πιο αναλυτικά, η διατριβή δομείται ως εξής: Εισαγωγή, Κεφάλαιο 1ο: «Κυνηγετικό Λεξιλόγιο: Η λειτουργία της επανάληψης ως μεταφραστική πρόκληση», Κεφάλαιο 2ο: «Οι μεταφραστικές τροπές της νόσου του Αίαντα», Κεφάλαιο 3: «Μεταφραστικές τροπές της σωφροσύνης», Συμπεράσματα και Βιβλιογραφία. Στο εισαγωγικό κεφάλαιο τίθενται οι μεθοδολογικές προϋποθέσεις της κειμενοκεντρικής έρευνας που ακολουθείται και επιχειρείται μια ανασκόπηση της προγενέστερης βιβλιογραφίας που αφορά των διαχωρισμό των μεταφράσεων (θεατρικές, φιλολογικές, λογοτεχνικές), κατάλογο των μεταφράσεων και επισήμανση των βασικών χαρακτηριστικών τους (έμμετρες, πεζές, αυτόνομες χωρίς συνανάγνωση με το πρωτότυπο κείμενο ή όσες συνοδεύονται από σχόλια). Επίσης εξηγούνται οι λόγοι για τους οποίους επιλέχθηκε το εν λόγω έργο. Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο εξετάζονται τα ερμηνευτικά και μεταφραστικά προβλήματα της θηρευτικής εικονοποιίας. Η μελέτη επιχειρεί έναν μεταφρασεολογικό σχολιασμό της κυνηγετικής εικονοποιίας στον Πρόλογο, ενώ μέσω της συγκριτικής εξέτασης πολλαπλών μεταφράσεων εξετάζεται η συνέπεια με την οποία οι μεταφραστές αναπαράγουν το κυνηγετικό λεξιλόγιο, δηλαδή αν αντιλαμβάνονται τη σημασία των εικόνων αυτών στη δραματική οικονομία ή αν τις θεωρούν δευτερεύουσες και τις υποκαθιστούν σε διάφορα σημεία του μεταφράσματος. Στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο επιχειρείται η μελέτη του επαναλαμβανόμενου λεξιλογίου που παραπέμπει, είτε άμεσα είτε έμμεσα, στη νόσο του Αίαντα. Το λεξιλόγιο αυτό αξιοποιείται από τα πρόσωπα του δράματος για να αποδώσουν, από τη δική τους οπτική, την ψυχική και πνευματική διαταραχή του ήρωα. Μέσα από τη συνεξέταση του πρωτότυπου κειμένου και των νεοελληνικών μεταφράσεων του έργου, διερευνάται κατά πόσο οι μεταφραστές αναγνωρίζουν και αποδίδουν τις διαφορετικές σημασιολογικές αποχρώσεις της λέξεις «νόσος», των παραγώγων της και των συνώνυμων όρων, καθώς και την ποικιλία των εκφάνσεων της ασθένειας στα μεταφράσματά τους. Στο τρίτο κεφάλαιο εξετάζεται η έννοια της σωφροσύνης που διατρέχει το σύνολο του συγκεκριμένου έργου. Ειδικότερα, τα χωρία που επιλέγονται περιέχουν όρους που σχετίζονται άμεσα με την σωφροσύνην, επιτρέποντας την ανάλυση τόσο των δραματουργικών τους αποχρώσεων όσο και του τρόπου με τον οποίο οι νεοελληνικές μεταφράσεις προσαρμόζουν την έννοια στα αντίστοιχα πολιτισμικά και ιδεολογικά πλαίσια. Η διδακτορική διατριβή ολοκληρώνεται με τα συμπεράσματα, όπου ανακεφαλαιώνονται οι βασικές διαπιστώσεις της έρευνας σχετικά με τα ζητήματα ερμηνείας και μετάφρασης στον Αίαντα του Σοφοκλή. | el |
| heal.abstract | The present doctoral dissertation examines Sophocles’ Ajax from an interesting perspective, that of Translation Studies, focusing on its Modern Greek Translations. More specifically, the study is situated within the field of Descriptive Translation Studies and concentrates on comparative analyses of the source text and its translations, aiming to shed light on the interpretative processes underlying the translator’s choices. The corpus of the Dissertation consists of Modern Greek translations of Ajax produced during the 20th and 21st centuries. Rather than following the linear structure of the tragedy, the analysis is organized around thematic and lexical axes, namely recurrent lexical fields that play a crucial role in the dramatic economy of the play. The Dissertation is structured as follows: an Introduction outlining the methodological framework, a review of previous scholarship, and a typology of the Modern Greek translations of Ajax; Chapter One examines the hunting imagery of the play and the challenges posed by the repetition of hunting-related vocabulary in translation; Chapter Two focuses on the lexical field associated with Ajax’s nosos, exploring how translators render the semantic nuances of illness and mental disturbance; Chapter three investigates the concept of sōphrosynē, analysing both its dramaturgical significance in the original text and its adaptation within different cultural and ideological contexts in Modern Greek translations. The dissertation concludes with a synthesis of the main findings concerning the interpretation and translation of Sophocles’ Ajax, highlighting the contribution of a lexically oriented approach to the study of tragic translation and reception. More specifically, the introductory chapter sets out the methodological requirements of the text-source research that follows and attempts a review of the previous bibliography concerning the separation of translations (theatrical, literary, literary), a list of translations and an indication of their basic characteristics (metrical, prose, autonomous without comparison with the original text or accompanied by commentary). The reasons for choosing this particular work are also explained. The first chapter examines the interpretative and translational problems of hunting imagery. The study attempts a translational commentary on hunting imagery in the Prologue, while through a comparative examination of multiple translations, it examines the consistency with which translators reproduce hunting vocabulary, that is, whether they understand the significance of these images in the dramatic economy or whether they consider them secondary and substitute them at various points in the translation. The second chapter attempts to study the recurring vocabulary that refers, either directly or indirectly, to Ajax's illness. This vocabulary is used by the characters in the drama to convey, from their own perspective, the hero's mental and spiritual disorder. Through a comparative analysis of the original text and the modern Greek translations of the work, the study examines the extent to which translators recognize and convey the different semantic nuances of the word "disease," its derivatives and synonyms, as well as the variety of manifestations of the disease in their translations. The third chapter examines the concept of prudence that runs through the entire work. In particular, the selected passages contain terms directly related to prudence, allowing for an analysis of both their dramaturgical nuances and the way in which the Modern Greek translations adapt the concept to the respective cultural and ideological contexts. | en |
