| heal.abstract | Η κατανόηση της μακρόχρονης μεταβλητότητας της επιφανειακής θερμοκρασίας είναι κρίσιμη για την αξιολόγηση των επιπτώσεων της κλιματικής αλλαγής. Η παρούσα μελέτη ερευνά την εξέλιξη της κατανομής πιθανότητας της επιφανειακής θερμοκρασίας στην Ελλάδα τα τελευταία 80 έτη (1943-2023), χρησιμοποιώντας το σύνολο δεδομένων επανανάλυσης ERA-5 και εξετάζει τις μεταβολές στη συχνότητα και την ένταση των ακραίων ψυχρών και θερμών θερμοκρασιακών επεισοδίων. Αρχικά, υπολογίστηκαν οι πρώτες τέσσερις στατιστικές ροπές (μέση τιμή, τυπική απόκλιση, λοξότητα, κύρτωση) της μέσης ημερήσιας, της μέγιστης και της ελάχιστης επιφανειακής θερμοκρασίας για κάθε δεκαετία και κάθε εποχή, κατόπιν αφαίρεσης του εποχιακού κύκλου και της γραμμικής τάσης εντός κάθε δεκαετίας. Για τα περισσότερα μέρη της Ελλάδας, διαπιστώθηκε μια σημαντική μεταβολή κατά τις τελευταίες δύο δεκαετίες μεταξύ των περισσότερων στατιστικών παραμέτρων, με τη μετατόπιση του μέσου όρου προς υψηλότερες θερμοκρασίες να είναι το πιο σημαντικό χαρακτηριστικό. Επομένως, ορίστηκαν δύο κλιματολογίες, για τα πρώτα 60 και τα τελευταία 20 έτη της χρονοσειράς και συγκρίθηκαν οι ακραίες θερμές και ψυχρές ημέρες εντός καθεμίας από τις τέσσερις εποχές. Για τον ορισμό των ακραίων χρησιμοποιήθηκαν δύο μετρικές: ο αριθμός των ημερών που υπερβαίνουν το όριο των δύο τυπικών αποκλίσεων και οι θερμοκρασίες του 5ου και 95ου ποσοστημορίου των κατανομών. Διαπιστώθηκε ότι τα ψυχρά (θερμά) επεισόδια έχουν μειωθεί (αυξηθεί) τα τελευταία 20 χρόνια, με αυτό το μοτίβο να είναι σταθερό σε ολόκληρη την περιοχή. Συνεπής με αυτό το εύρημα είναι η συνολική αύξηση των θερμοκρασιών τόσο στο 5ο όσο και στο 95ο ποσοστημόριο τις τελευταίες δύο δεκαετίες. Ακόμη, εφαρμόστηκε μια μέθοδος που προσδιορίζει τη συμβολή της αύξησης της μέσης τιμής και των μεταβολών στις στατιστικές ροπές ανώτερης τάξης στην αύξηση των θερμοκρασιών των ποσοστημορίων και στη μεταβολή την συχνότητα των ψυχρών και θερμών επεισοδίων. Με βάση τη μέθοδο αυτή διαπιστώθηκε πως ενώ η μετατόπιση της μέσης θερμοκρασίας ευθύνεται για τις περισσότερες από τις αλλαγές στα ακραία φαινόμενα, υπάρχει και μια μικρότερη αλλά μη αμελητέα συμβολή των μεταβολών των ροπών ανώτερης τάξης. | el |
| heal.abstract | Understanding the long-term variability of surface temperature is crucial for assessing the impacts of climate change. This study investigates the evolution of the probability distribution of surface temperature in Greece during the last 80 years (from 1943 to 2023) using the ERA-5 reanalysis dataset and examines the changes in the frequency of extreme cold and warm days. Initially the first four statistical moments (mean, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis) of daily maximum, minimum and mean surface temperature for each decade and each season were obtained after removing the seasonal cycle and the linear trend within each decade. For most parts of Greece, a significant change during the last two decades among most of the moments is found with shifting of the mean towards larger temperatures being the most prominent feature. Therefore, the climatology of extreme warm and cold days within each of the seasons that is calculated for the first 60 and the last 20 years of the timeseries is compared. Two metrics are used: the number of days exceeding the two sigma threshold and the temperatures of the 5th and 95th percentiles of the distributions. It is found that extreme cold (warm) days have decreased (increased) over the last 20 years, with this pattern being consistent across the entire region. Consistent with this finding is the overall increase in both the 5th and 95th percentile temperatures over the last two decades. A method that determines the contribution of the observed shift in the mean and the changes in the higher order statistical moments to the increase of the percentile temperatures and to the changes in the frequency of cold and hot extremes is also applied. It is found that while the shift in the mean temperature accounts for most of the changes in the extremes, there is a smaller but non-negligible contribution of the changes in the higher order moments as well. | en |
