heal.abstractΗ εργασία εξετάζει τυπολογικά χαρακτηριστικά, πρότυπα λειτουργίας και πρακτικές φιλοξενίας που συνδέθηκαν με την ανάπτυξη των ιδιωτικών μέσων μετακίνησης εστιάζοντας σε δύο αντιπροσωπευτικούς τύπους: το χάνι και το μοτέλ. Τα χάνια, ιδιαίτερα ανεπτυγμένα στον ελλαδικό χώρο και στα Ιωάννινα κατά την Οθωμανική περίοδο, αποτέλεσαν σημεία διανυκτέρευσης και εμπορικής δραστηριότητας, συνδυάζοντας φιλοξενία και υποστήριξη των ταξιδιωτών και των ζώων τους. Αντίστοιχα, τα μοτέλ, τα οποία αναδύθηκαν στον 20ό αιώνα στις ΗΠΑ και αργότερα υιοθετήθηκαν στην Ελλάδα, συνδέθηκαν άρρηκτα με την ευρεία χρήση του αυτοκινήτου. Μέσω της συγκριτικής μελέτης των δύο τύπων καταλυμάτων, αναδεικνύονται οι κοινωνικοοικονομικοί και τεχνολογικοί παράγοντες που επηρέασαν τη μορφή και τη λειτουργία τους, καθώς και ο τρόπος με τον οποίο συνέβαλαν στη διαμόρφωση νέων ταξιδιωτικών πρακτικών και εμπειριών.el
heal.abstractThe study examines typological features, operating models and hospitality practices that were associated with the development of private means of trans- portation, focusing on two representative types: the inn (chani) and the motel. The inns (chania), particularly developed in Greece and in Ioannina during the Ottoman period, were places of overnight stay and commercial activity, combining hospitality and support for travelers and their animals. Respectively, motels, which emerged in the 20th century in the USA and were later adopted in Greece, were inextricably linked to the widespread use of the automobile. Through the comparative study of the two types of accommodation, the socio- economic and technological factors that influenced their form and function are highlighted, as well as the way in which they contributed to the formation of new travel practices and experiences.en
