| heal.abstract | Η παρούσα εργασία διερευνά τα γνωστικά και γλωσσικά χαρακτηριστικά των ατόμων με σύνδρομο Down (DS), δίνοντας έμφαση στις αφηγηματικές τους ικανότητες, τις συννοσηρότητες και την επίδραση της γήρανσης στη γλώσσα και τη νόηση. Επισημαίνει τις προκλήσεις που θέτουν οι διαταραχές στην εκτελεστική λειτουργία, τη μνήμη και τη γλωσσική επεξεργασία, ενώ εντοπίζει τα δυνατά σημεία στην πραγματολογική χρήση της γλώσσας. Η ανασκόπηση εξετάζει επίσης τον επιπολασμό της ήπιας νοητικής εξασθένησης (MCI) και την εξέλιξή της σε άνοια, εστιάζοντας στη μείωση της λεκτικής ευχέρειας, της ανάκτησης λέξεων και των ικανοτήτων κατονομασίας ως διαγνωστικούς δείκτες. Επιπλέον, συζητείται ο αντίκτυπος των συννοσηροτήτων, όπως οι λοιμώξεις του ουροποιητικού συστήματος (UTI), στη γνωστική λειτουργία, υπογραμμίζοντας τη σημασία της ολοκληρωμένης παρακολούθησης της υγείας. Τα ευρήματα υπογραμμίζουν την αλληλεπίδραση των παραγόντων κινδύνου και των προστατευτικών παραγόντων, την ανάγκη έγκαιρης παρέμβασης και τον ρόλο της διεπιστημονικής φροντίδας στη βελτίωση των αποτελεσμάτων. Οι πρακτικές συστάσεις περιλαμβάνουν προσαρμοσμένες θεραπείες, εκπαίδευση των φροντιστών και χρήση υποστηρικτικών τεχνολογιών για την υποστήριξη της επικοινωνίας και της γνωστικής ανάπτυξης. Αναγνωρίζονται οι περιορισμοί, όπως η ετερογένεια του πληθυσμού DS και η έλλειψη διαχρονικών μελετών. Η παρούσα εργασία καταλήγει τονίζοντας τη σημασία της πολιτισμικά ευαίσθητης έρευνας, των λύσεων που βασίζονται στην τεχνολογία και των διαχρονικών ερευνών για την αντιμετώπιση των εξελισσόμενων αναγκών των ατόμων με DS σε όλη τη διάρκεια της ζωής. | el |

The thesis also examines the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and its progression to dementia, focusing on the decline in verbal fluency, word retrieval, and naming abilities as diagnostic markers. Additionally, the impact of comorbidities, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), on cognitive functioning is discussed, underscoring the importance of comprehensive health monitoring. The findings emphasize the interplay of risk and protective factors, the need for early intervention, and the role of multidisciplinary care in improving outcomes. Practical recommendations include tailored therapies, caregiver education, and the use of assistive technologies to support communication and cognitive development. Limitations, such as the heterogeneity of the DS population and the lack of longitudinal studies, are acknowledged.
