On the pages of this article, a typology emerges concerning nutritional habits of the beneficiary population as well as food products for human consumption along with their exact prices in the ottoman city of Ioannina in Epirus during the second half of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century (1875-1912). The analysis is based on the compilation and comparison of four Orthodox Monasteries located in the region. The Monasteries are: a) Douroutis Monastery and b) Peristeras Monastery, both of which lie within the boarders of the University of Ioannina campus, c) Agias Paraskevis Monastery in the region of Zagori and d) Lycostanis Monastery in the village Ligiades. The main sources consist of unpublished Greek “quid pro quo”, “verso and recto” manuscripts, which currently lie in the Historical Archive of the Diocese of Ioannina. Thus, the pages of the paper entail a detailed presentation and explication o f monastic diet along with the relevant financial transactions of these specific Monasteries. Finally, the varying buying and selling rates o f the market in Ioannina, during the period considered, are emphasized.en
