| heal.abstract | We will approach Cristopher Nolan’s Inception, an action film with a strong philo-sophical background, which poses fundamental questions about reality and truth, conscience, and moral dilemmas in a fruitful dialogue with Descartes’ Meditations. Cartesian skeptical doubt, recognizing that our sensory-based knowledge and beliefs can drive us to illusion and deception, supports that our mind and consciousness is equipped to reach the truth that human being, as res cogitans, exists, that the ex¬ternal world exists, but is difficult to discern with the absolute certainty, he claimed necessary for philosophizing, dreams from waking life. Film’s dialogue with carte¬sian philosophy is driven further since modern digital technology can create virtual realities and multiplicate the possible dream worlds, offering seducing substitutes of life and happiness. Inception is questioning our relationship with reality and the real world not only from an epistemological perspective· the film ends with a strong eth¬ical dilemma, concerning the way our passions and weaknesses drive us to choose illusionary virtual worlds instead to fight for the real. | en |
