Table of contents: The present thesis aims to delve into a comprehensive understanding of the various cultivated tomato varieties. Tomatoes, as one of the fundamental and widely consumed plants for human consumption, exhibit significant diversity in terms of appearance, flavor, and usage. Through this work, we will explore the different tomato varieties and the characteristics that make them unique. Utilizing data, research methods, and comparative analysis, we will investigate the diverse elements that influence the traits of these varieties, such as size, shape, and color. We will also examine the suitable uses for each variety across different applications. This analytical approach is expected to highlight the diversity of cultivated tomato varieties, as well as their significance in agriculture, diet, and the market. Overall, this work aims to provide a comprehensive and informed picture of the variety of cultivated tomato varieties and their importance in the agricultural and dietary sectors. The commercial cultivation of tomatoes encompasses a wide range of varieties that differ in size, color, shape, flavor, and usage. Commercial tomato varieties are grown worldwide for fresh consumption, processing, and trade. Each variety possesses its own unique characteristics. Furthermore, we will explore plant genetic improvement, discussing its references, different techniques (traditional breeding, hybridization, mutagenesis, genetic engineering, marker-assisted selection, genomics-assisted selection), objectives, and roles in tomato genetic enhancement. This includes both traditional propagation methods and modern biotechnological approaches.
