heal.abstractΙn the present study, the theoretical model (scenario) of the "Secondary Products Revolution in the Old World" by A. Sherratt (1981, 1983) was first presented in detail and then, the existing data on the exploitation of secondary animal products were examined with an emphasis on the prehistoric communities of Greece during Chalcolithic / Final Neolithic and Early Bronze Age, compared to other regions of the Old World. It is noted that Secondary products are defined as animal products (milk, manure, exploitation of the muscle power of animals) with their main characteristic being their repeated exploitation throughout the life of the animals. The detailed presentation of the model was developed in four thematic sections. In the first thematic section the findings of previous studies, which had a fruitful effect on Sherratt's work, were summarized, in the second the data of Sherratt's two essays (Sherratt 1981, 1983), where he formulates his theoretical model, were presented and compared. Subsequently, in the third, its reception by the scientific community was mapped, while in the fourth thematic section, detailed issues of terminology were discussed. Afterwards, the current data (archaeological, bioarchaeological, zooarchaeological and others) were presented and analyzed thoroughly separately for each product (milk, wool and animal traction, which document the exploitation of secondary animal products in regions of Eurasia with an emphasis on Greece during Chalcolithic / Final Neolithic and Early Bronze Age. It has been found that the use of milk and animal muscle power dates back to the Neolithic. In Greece evidence showed that the intensity of the use of milk an wool appears in the Early Bronze Age. In fact, in the case of the complex of animal traction only indications are found. In contrast, in the Carpathian Basin, Northern and Central Europe, areas of Eastern Europe and Mesopotamia, the data indicate more intensive exploitation of secondary animal products. Based on the data, Greece is also part of a wide geographical area, where a wave of innovations and inventions contributed to more complex societies.en
