| heal.abstract | Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία εξετάζει ενδελεχώς το φαινόμενο της σύναψης διπλωματικών επιγαμιών μεταξύ Βυζαντινών και Μογγόλων στο πλαίσιο των πολιτικών και στρατιωτικών εξελίξεων της πρώιμης Παλαιολόγειας περιόδου. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, η έρευνα επικεντρώνεται στην παρουσία των βυζαντινών πριγκιπισσών στις μογγολικές αυλές του Ιλχανάτου και της Χρυσής Ορδής, των δυτικών, δηλαδή, χανάτων που προέκυψαν μετά τη διάσπαση της μογγολικής αυτοκρατορίας, αλλά και στις προεκτάσεις που αυτή έλαβε σε πολιτικό, στρατιωτικό, οικονομικό, θρησκευτικό και πολιτιστικό επίπεδο. Αναλυτικότερα, το εισαγωγικό μέρος της μελέτης περιλαμβάνει την κριτική επισκόπηση τόσο του συνόλου των πηγών, βυζαντινών και μη, όσο και της δευτερεύουσας βιβλιογραφίας. Ακολούθως, στο πρώτο μέρος αυτής επιχειρείται η θεωρητική προσέγγιση του θέματος των συνοικεσίων, ενώ στη συνέχεια απαριθμούνται, εν είδει αναδρομής, οι πρώτες μεμονωμένες επιγαμίες που επιδιώχθηκαν, αλλά ως επί το πλείστον δεν ευοδώθηκαν ανάμεσα στα γυναικεία και άρρενα μέλη της αυτοκρατορικής οικογένειας και τα αντίστοιχα των ανατολικών και αλλοθρήσκων λαών. Από την άλλη πλευρά, στο δεύτερο και κυριότερο μέρος της εργασίας παρακολουθείται αρχικά η ταχεία και ορμητική προέλαση των Μογγόλων, καθώς και η πορεία που ακολούθησε η νεοσύστατη αυτοκρατορία τους από το στάδιο της ενότητας σε αυτό του διαμελισμού και τελικά σε εκείνο της κατάρρευσης. Στη συνέχεια, το τέταρτο κεφάλαιο της μελέτης εξετάζει τις πρώτες επαφές Βυζαντινών και Μογγόλων, αλλά και τις διπλωματικές προσπάθειες των Λασκαριδών να διευθετήσουν την άκρως επικίνδυνη κατάσταση. Όσον αφορά στο τελευταίο και σημαντικότερο κεφάλαιο της εργασίας, αυτό συγκεντρώνει τα συνοικέσια που συνήφθησαν μεταξύ Βυζαντινών και Μογγόλων. Στις υποενότητες αυτού μελετώνται λεπτομερώς όχι μόνο οι ίδιοι οι γάμοι και τα αποτελέσματά τους, αλλά και οι συγκυρίες που οδήγησαν σε αυτούς, οι βυζαντινές πριγκίπισσες που επιλέχθηκαν ως σύζυγοι των Μογγόλων ηγεμόνων και ο ρόλος που εκείνες διαδραμάτισαν στις αυλές τους. Τέλος, η έρευνα ολοκληρώνεται με την παράθεση των συμπερασμάτων και της βιβλιογραφίας που χρησιμοποιήθηκε. | el |
| heal.abstract | This study thoroughly examines the question of diplomatic marriages between Byzantines and Mongols in the context of political and military developments of the early Palaeologan period. More specifically, this research focuses on the presence of Byzantine princesses in the Mongol courts of the Ilkhanate and the Golden Horde, the western khanates that came to exist after the disintegration of the Mongol empire but also on the effects that their presence there produced at a political, military, economic, religious and cultural level. More specifically, the introductory part of the study consists of a critical overview of all the sources, Byzantine and non-Byzantine, as well as secondary literature. Subsequently, in the first part the theoretical basis to the issue of royal marriages is explained, while then, retrospectively, followed by the first cases of intermarriage that were attempted, but mostly failed, between the female and male members of the byzantine imperial family and the eastern, non-Christian sovereign powers. On the other hand, in the second and most important part of this study, emphasis is laid on the rapid and impetuous advance of the Mongols, as well as the course of their newly formed empire from the stage of unity to that of fragmentation and finally to its collapse. Then, the fourth chapter of the study examines the first contacts between Byzantines and Mongols, but also the diplomatic efforts of the Lascarids to tackle the extremely dangerous situation. As for the last and most substantial chapter, it comprises of the marriage agreements, concluded between Byzantines and Mongols. In the subsections of this chapter particular attention has been paid not only to the marriages themselves and their results, but also to the circumstances that led to them, the personalities of the Byzantine princesses that had been chosen as brides of the Mongol rulers, and the role they played in their courts.
