| heal.abstract | Η παρούσα διατριβή εξετάζει πτυχές οντολογικής αντίληψης και μεταφυσικής επιστημολογίας μέσα από μια συγκριτική ανάγνωση φιλοσοφικών, θρησκευτικών, μυθολογικών και άλλων κειμένων. Το πρώτο μέρος εξετάζει κυρίως φιλοσοφικές αφηγήσεις: την έννοια των δύο κόσμων του Πλάτωνα, την οντολογική αλυσίδα του Πλωτίνου και τη μεταφυσική του επιστημολογία του υπερβατικού εμπειρισμού, τον ιδεαλισμό του Μπάρκλεϋ, την έννοια του Πανθεϊστικού Παράδοξου του Walter Stace (η οποία προσεγγίζεται κυρίως μέσω Σπινόζα). Ο τελευταίος πυλώνας του πρώτου μέρους είναι οι ιδέες των Ρώσων φορμαλιστών (και ιδιαίτερα του Jakobson) γύρω από τη μεταφορά ως σύνδεση μεταξύ ξεχωριστών κατηγοριών. Το δεύτερο μέρος -λαμβάνοντας υπόψιν τις έννοιες του πρώτου μέρους- εξετάζει κυρίως διάφορες περιπτώσεις μυθικής σκέψης. Το πρώτο κεφάλαιο αυτού του μέρους αφορά τον ρόλο του μονισμού και του δυϊσμού στην οντολογική σκέψη, ιδιαίτερα στις μυστικιστικές παραδόσεις. Το δεύτερο κεφάλαιο εξετάζει την έννοια της αποκάλυψης, διεισδύοντας σε κείμενα των τριών κύριων αβρααμικών παραδόσεων αφού περάσει από τη θεωρία του διθάλαμου νου του Τζούλιαν Τζέινς. Το θέμα του τρίτου κεφαλαίου είναι η έννοια της μεθοριακότητας στην οντολογική σκέψη, περνώντας από το Βιβλίο του Ενώχ, τους Ελληνικούς Μαγικούς Πάπυρους (εξετάζοντας τις μαγικές τελετές μετάβασης), το Αιγυπτιακό και Βουδιστικό Βιβλίο των Νεκρών (εξετάζοντας το πέρασμα στον θάνατο) και μεθοριακές θεότητες, κυρίως στους Ορφικούς Ύμνους. Το τέταρτο κεφάλαιο εξετάζει δύο διηγήματα φαντασίας (ένα του Λόρδου Dunsany και ένα του H.P. Lovecraft) σε μια συγκριτική ανάγνωση μαζί με τη νεοπλατωνική θεουργία, καθώς και την αριστοτελική μεταφυσική. Το θέμα αυτού του κεφαλαίου είναι η συναισθηματική επένδυση στο υπερβατικό και η έλξη από έναν κόσμο πέρα από τον εμπειρικό. Η διατριβή ολοκληρώνεται επισημαίνοντας δομές και μοτίβα οντολογικής αντίληψης που προέκυψαν από αυτή τη μελέτη και προτείνει ευρείας κλίμακας διεπιστημονική έρευνα για το θέμα. | el |
| heal.abstract | This dissertation examines aspects of ontological perception and metaphysical epistemology through a comparative reading of philosophical, religious, mythological and other texts. The first part examines mainly philosophical narratives: Plato’s concept of the Two Worlds, Plotinus’ chain of being and his metaphysical epistemology of transcendental empiricism, Berkeley’s mind-based immaterialism, Walter Stace’s concept of the Pantheistic Paradox (which is approached mainly through the ontology of Spinoza). The last pillar of the first part is the Russian Formalists’ (and especially Jakobson’s) ideas around metaphor as a connection between separate categories. The second part -taking into account the concepts of the first part- mainly examines various instances of mythical thought. The first chapter of this part concerns the role of monism and dualism in ontological thought, especially in mystical traditions. The second chapter examines the concept of revelation, diving into texts of the three main Abrahamic traditions after passing through Julian Jaynes’ theory of the bicameral mind. The subject of the third chapter is the concept of liminality in ontological thought, going through the Book of Enoch, Greek Magical Papyri (examining magical rites of passage), the Egyptian and Buddhist Books of the Dead (examining the passage into death) and looks at liminal deities, mainly in Orphic Hymns. The fourth chapter examines two fantasy short stories (one by Lord Dunsany and one by H.P. Lovecraft) in a comparative reading along with Neoplatonic theurgy, as well as Aristotelian metaphysics. This chapter’s subject is the emotional investment in the transcendent and the attraction to a world beyond the empirical. The dissertation ends by pointing out structures and patterns of ontological perception that emerged from this study and suggests large-scale interdisciplinary research on the subject. | en |
