| heal.abstract | Πρώτος ο Νίκος Οικονομίδης, το 1988, διείδε την ανάγκη εκπόνησης μιας επιστημονικής μελέτης που θα είχε ως αποκλειστικό αντικείμενο την επίκληση με την οποία συνήθως ξεκινά η επιγραφή πάνω σε ένα μολυβδόβουλλο. Στόχοι λοιπόν της παρούσας διατριβής αυτής ήταν: η συγκέντρωση όλων των δημοσιευμένων σφραγιστικών επιγραφών με επίκληση και η ομαδοποίηση – κατηγοριοποίηση των επικλήσεων ανάλογα με το θείο πρόσωπο στο οποίο αναφέρονται. Η παρουσίαση της αρχής και της εξέλιξης των επικλήσεων στα θεία πρόσωπα, τόσο όσον αφορά τις επιλογές των θείων προσώπων όσο και την γλωσσική μορφή των επιγραφών με επικλήσεις. Η αναλυτική παρουσίαση α) ανά θείο πρόσωπο και β) ανά αιώνα σε συνδυασμό, όπου ήταν δυνατόν, με μαρτυρίες από άλλες βοηθητικές επιστήμες. Η συγκριτική μελέτη επικλήσεων πάνω σε σφραγίδες, με αντίστοιχες επικλήσεις επιγραφών σε αντικείμενα ή άλλα έργα μικροτεχνίας, εκκλησιαστικά ή κοσμικά κτίρια. Η διερεύνηση των συνθηκών που κάθε φορά οδηγούσαν α) στις απότομες ή σταδιακές αλλαγές όσον αφορά την επιλογή των θείων προσώπων στις επικλήσεις και β) τις παρεκκλίσεις από τις γενικευμένες τάσεις τόσο στο εκφραστικό τυπικό όσο και στο επικαλούμενο πρόσωπο. Η διερεύνηση θεολογικών και κοινωνικοπολιτικών τάσεων σε σχέση με τις επιλογές των επικαλούμενων θείων προσώπων. Η περιοδολόγηση του φαινομένου των επικλήσεων σε θεία πρόσωπα πάνω σε σφραγιστικές επιγραφές με την παρουσίαση των κύριων χαρακτηριστικών κάθε περιόδου. Και τέλος η κατάρτιση αξιόπιστων πινάκων και εξαγωγή στατιστικών που οδήγησαν στη διατύπωση σχετικών παρατηρήσεων και μπορούν να αξιοποιηθούν από τη γενικότερη επιστημονική έρευνα.Από τη στιγμή ανάληψης του θέματος της παρούσας διατριβής κατέστη σαφές ότι βασική προϋπόθεση ήταν η συγκέντρωση και καταγραφή του συνόλου σχεδόν των δημοσιευμένων σφραγίδων με επίκληση. Για τον λόγο αυτόν ξεκίνησε η αποδελτίωση των δημοσιευμένων σφραγιστικών συνταγμάτων, άρθρων και καταλόγων δημοπρασιών, όπου ήταν αυτό δυνατόν. Όταν αποδελτιώθηκαν όλα τα δημοσιευμένα corpora, μεμονωμένα άρθρα, οι κατάλογοι δημοπρασιών και τα Studies in Byzantine Sigillography συγκεντρώθηκαν 11000 σφραγίδες. Ωστόσο, πριν την πραγμάτευση των επικλήσεων κρίθηκε σκόπιμο να ξεκαθαριστεί, σε ξεχωριστό κεφάλαιο, το πρώτο, τι θεωρούμε ως επίκληση. Από το εύρος των επικαλούμενων προσώπων έγινε φανερό ότι η μελέτη των επικλήσεων έπρεπε να διαιρεθεί σε 4 κεφάλαια, όπου θα περιλαμβάνονταν οι επικλήσεις προς τον Κύριο, τη Θεοτόκο, τον Αρχάγγελο Μιχαήλ και τους αγίους. Η συγκριτική μελέτη των επικλήσεων πάνω σε σφραγίδες, έργα Μικροτεχνίας, εκκλησιαστικά ή κοσμικά κτίρια οδήγησε την έρευνά μας σε πολλαπλά συμπεράσματα για τον χώρο της Βυζαντινής Σφραγιστικής, με κυριότερο τη διαμόρφωση, με βάση τα αριθμητικά δεδομένα των επικλήσεων, τριών περιόδων: την Περίοδο Α’ (4ος – 7ος αι.) όπου η αναγραφή επίκληση αποφεύγεται προκειμένου ο κάτοχος της σφραγίδας να αποφύγει τυχόν επιπλοκές, λόγω θεολογικών διαφοροποιήσεων από την κεντρική εξουσία. Την Περίοδο Β’ (8ος – 10ος αι.), όπου η αναγραφή επίκλησης είναι απαραίτητο στοιχείο της σφραγιστικής επιγραφής και τέλος την Περίοδο Γ’ (11ος – 15ος αι.), όταν κυριαρχούν τα έμμετρα μολυβδόβουλλα. | el |
| heal.abstract | The absence of a scholarly study focused exclusively on introductory invocations in lead seal inscriptions was first noted by Nikos Oikonomides, in 1988. Driven by this observation, the goals of the present dissertation were: the compilation of all the published lead seal inscriptions with invocations and the grouping – categorization of the invocations therein according to the holy figure to which they refer; an overview of the introduction and evolution of invocations to holy figures, with discussion regarding both the choice of holy figure and the language used in the invocations themselves; an exhaustive presentation a) by holy figure, and b) by century, combined, wherever feasible, with testimony from other, supporting disciplines; the comparative study of invocations on seals with comparable invocations in inscriptions on items or other works of minor art, and both secular and religious buildings; the exploration of the conditions which caused a) gradual or abrupt changes in the preference of holy figures in invocations and b) divergences from the wider trends, both in the expressional means and in the invoked holy figure; the discussion of theological and socio-political trends in relation to the selection of invoked holy figures; the periodization of invocations to holy figures in lead seal inscriptions and the presentation of the dominant properties in each period; and, finally, the formulation of reliable tables and the extraction of statistics for the observations expressed in the present dissertation, which may be utilized in future scholarly research.The need to compile and document almost the entirety of published lead seals with invocations became apparent early on in the writing of the present dissertation. This provided the impetus to index published lead seal corpora, studies, and auction lists wherever feasible. The indexing of all published corpora, individual studies, and auction lists, together with the lead seals presented in the series “Studies in Byzantine Sigillography” resulted in a total of 11000 seals. However, before work could begin on the invocations themselves, it was necessary to define the term “invocation” in a separate chapter, which serves as the introduction to the present work. Due to the variety of invoked holy figures, the work has 4 separate chapters, one each for invocations to the Lord, the Theotokos, the Archangel Michael, and the saints. The comparative study of invocations on seals, works of minor art, and religious and secular buildings produced numerous conclusions regarding the field of Byzantine Sigillography, the most important being the periodization of invocations into three periods, based on the data: Period A (4th – 7th c.), during which seal owners generally avoided adding invocations to their seals for fear of complications due to differentiations from the central authority, Period B (8th – 10th c.), during which invocations were a necessary part of sigillographical inscriptions, and Period C (11th – 15th c.), during which metrical inscriptions were the norm on lead seals. | en |
