heal.abstractAn inscription from Rhodes (Zimmer & Bairami 2008, 149-153, fig. 134, SEG 58, 816) refers to the boxer Πυθίων son of Κλευφάνευς, who was victorious in the games of Olympia, Isthmia, Pythia, Nemea and some more periodic games (Alieia, Heraia, Amphiareia, Dalia, Amarieia, Nikaforia, Asklapieia, Dorieia) all over Greece. The interesting part lies at the 10th line of the inscription, which is restored as Νάα έν Άμ[-------- ]. Naia are Pan-Hellenic games, celebrated every four years in the Sanctuary of Zeus at Dodona of Epirus, also mentioned on the Antikythera Mechanism among other famous games of the antiquity. More interesting is the assumption that sometime after the Roman conquest of Epirus (168-167 BC), the Naia games were possibly transferred in ancient Ambracia (capital of the Molossian kingdom during the reign of Pyrrhus).en
