| heal.abstract | Στα πλαίσια της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας εξετάζεται η πρόσληψη της τεχνολογίας και της επιστήμης από τον Ιωάννη Μεταξά και τη Δικτατορία της 4ης Αυγούστου. Αναλυτικότερα, στο πρώτο μέρος της εργασίας αναζητούνται οι επιρροές που δέχθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια των σπουδαστικών του χρόνων στη Σχολή Ευελπίδων (1895-1890) και στην Ακαδημία Πολέμου του Βερολίνου (1899-1902), καθώς διαμόρφωσαν τις μετέπειτα κρίσεις του για την τεχνολογία και την επιστήμη. Στο δεύτερο μέρος, μελετώνται οι αντιλήψεις του Ι. Μεταξά για το τεχνοεπιστημονικό σύμπλεγμα μέσα από τους λόγους και τις πρακτικές του στη δημόσια σφαίρα. Για την ικανοποίηση αυτού του σκοπού, αναλύεται κριτικά ο λόγος που άρθρωσε για μια σειρά τεχνικών ζητημάτων κατά την περίοδο της θητείας του ως Υπουργός Συγκοινωνιών στην Οικουμενική Κυβέρνηση Ζαΐμη (1926-1928). Στη συνέχεια, εξετάζεται ο τρόπος χρήσης των «ουδέτερων» τεχνολογιών (του ραδιοφώνου, της φωτογραφίας και του κινηματογράφου) από τη Δικτατορία της 4ης Αυγούστου, παρακολουθώντας τη μετατροπή τους από μέσα πληροφόρησης σε φερέφωνα του καθεστώτος. Τέλος, επιχειρείται η ανεύρεση του τρόπου παρουσίασης της τεχνολογίας και της επιστήμης στα σχολικά εγχειρίδια της πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης. | el |
| heal.abstract | This study aimed to analyze how Ioannis Metaxas and his regime understand the technology and science of his times. More specifically, in the first part of my study, I show how his education at the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) during the years 1895-1890 and at the Prussian War College (Kriegsakademie) the period 1899-1902 shaped his views about science and technology. In the second part of my study, I explore Metaxas’ stand towards science and technology in the public sphere. Especially, I examine his speeches in the Greek Republic when he was Minister of Transportation (1926-1928). Additionally, I analyze how Metaxas used the technologies of his time, like radio, photography, and cinema, to influence public opinion over his dictatorship (1936-1949). In that context, I show that these technologies are not neutral artifacts, but they could be used by authoritarian regimes for manipulation’s purposes. In the last part of this study, I examine how the writers of schoolbooks in primary education present the science and technology to the students during the dictatorship, arguing that they promote a realistic and positive view on technology and science for practical reasons. | en |
