| heal.abstract | Το βενετο-κυπριακό εμπόριο υφασμάτων του 18ου αιώνα, αποτελεί ένα τμήμα μεγάλης σημασίας για την κυπριακή ιστορία του υφάσματος και του ενδύματος, στην οποία αντανακλώνται οι κοινωνικές συνθήκες της εποχής και σκιαγραφούνται οι κοινωνικές συμπεριφορές και οι νοοτροπίες του κόσμου που συνδέεται με το εμπόριο και την κοινωνική άνοδο, ενώ αφήνει περιθώρια για την κατανόηση όλων των κοινωνικών στρωμάτων της Κύπρου κατά τον 18ο αιώνα. Η παρούσα μελέτη είναι καρπός μιας μακροχρόνιας αρχειακής έρευνας αφιερωμένης στα υφάσματα, αντικείμενα του εμπορίου Βενετίας - Κύπρου και στη χρήση τους από τους κατοίκους της Λάρνακας τον 18ο αιώνα. Η έρευνα επικεντρώθηκε στα αρχεία της Βενετίας και στη μελέτη του αρχειακού υλικού του Βενετικού Προξενείου της Κύπρου (Consolato Veneto del Regno di Cipro) που σήμερα φυλάσσεται στο Κρατικό Αρχείο της Βενετίας. Επιχείρησα να παρακολουθήσω τη διαδρομή των υφασμάτων από την παραγωγή μέχρι την εμπορία τους, τη διάθεση και τη χρήση τους από μια συγκεκριμένη κοινωνική ομάδα που περιστρεφόταν γύρω από τα ευρωπαϊκά προξενεία της Λάρνακας. Η έρευνα για τα υφάσματα και τα ενδύματα έδειξε ότι στην Κύπρο δεν σώζεται κανένα που με βεβαιότητα να ανήκει στον 18ο αιώνα, γεγονός που έθεσε το ζήτημα μιας έρευνας, ταυτοποίησης και τεκμηρίωσης στα μουσεία και τις συλλογές ενδυμάτων πέραν των κυπριακών συνόρων. Η ιστορική ανάλυση των στοιχείων της μόδας της εποχής οδήγησε στην εμβάθυνση των τεχνικών πτυχών του αντικειμένου, επιτρέποντας τη διείσδυση στις γραπτές πηγές και τη διευκρίνιση των σχετικών όρων με τα χαρακτηριστικά των υφασμάτων και των ενδυμάτων, και προσφέροντας μεγαλύτερες δυνατότητες ερμηνείας. Με βάση τη συγκριτική έρευνα των κοινωνιών που χρησιμοποίησαν αυτά τα ενδύματα και της τεχνολογίας που διέθεταν, αναδύθηκαν οι απαντήσεις που ανταποκρίνονται στις γραπτές και εικονογραφικές μαρτυρίες της εποχής. Στο εγχείρημά αυτό, η κατανόηση του 18ου αιώνα στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, η πολιτική και η οικονομική κατάσταση της Κύπρου την εποχή αυτή και ο ρόλος των ευρωπαϊκών προξενείων ήταν η προϋπόθεση για την τεκμηρίωση της κοινωνικής αξίας των υφασμάτων και της κοινωνικής χρήσης των ενδυμάτων που κατασκευάζονταν από αυτά. | el |
| heal.abstract | The Venetian-Cypriot fabric trade of the 18th century is of great importance regarding the Cypriot history of textile and attire, reflecting the social conditions of the era and outlining the social behaviors and the attitudes of the people associated with trade and social rise, while leaving space for the understanding of all the social strata of Cyprus in the 18th century. The present study is the result of a long-term archival research devoted to the textiles, objects of trade between Venice and Cyprus and to their use by the inhabitants of Larnaca in the 18th century. The research focused on the archives of Venice and on the study of the archive material of the Venetian Consulate of Cyprus (Consolato Veneto del Regno di Cipro), which is today kept in the Venice State Archive. We tried to track the fabrics' journey from production to their commerce, their distribution and their use by a particular social group revolving around the European consulates in Larnaca. The research on fabrics and garments has shown that no one is preserved in Cyprus, which certainly belongs to the 18th century, which raised the issue of research, identification and documentation in museums and garments collections beyond the Cypriot border. The historical analysis of the fashion elements of the era has led to the deepening of their technical aspects, allowing the penetration of written sources and the clarification of the relevant terms with the characteristics of the fabrics and garments, offering greater possibilities for interpretation. Based on the comparative research of the societies that used these garments and the technology they possessed, responses that corresponded to the written and pictorial testimonies of the time emerged. In this endeavor, the understanding of the 18th century in the Eastern Mediterranean, the political and economic situation of Cyprus at that time, and the role of European consulates were the prerequisite for documenting the social value of fabrics and the social use of garments manufactured by these. | en |
