In the Katsanochoria and Tzoumerka regions there are at least nine churches decorated with 17th century wall paintings. In the first half of the century are dated the wall paintings of the Dormition of the Virgin (Koimisi tis Theotokou) at Korytiani and of Saint (Ayios) Nikolaos at Kalentzi, whereas the decoration of the Transfiguration (Metamorfosis) at Plaisia, of Saint (Ayia) Paraskevi at Kalentzi and of Saint (Ayia) Paraskevi at Patero date around the middle of the century. In the second half of the 17th century were decorated the Dormition (Koimisi) at Helleniko, the Dormition (Koimisi) at Plaisia, the monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin (Genesio Theotokou) at Plaka and Saint (Ayios) Symeon at Korytiani. The iconography of these monuments in a great degree follows the local tradition of the 16th century, as documented in the works of the representatives of the school of NW Greece. The art of the painters at the Dormition of Korytiani, at Saint Nikolaos and at Saint Paraskevi at Kalentzi is of a more vernacular character, whereas the painter at the Dormition at Korytiani is identified with the painter of the Taxiarches at Uzdina of Thesprotia. During the second half of the 17th century strong western influences can be noted and eclectic tensions prevail, which are particularly visible at the Dormition of Plaisia and at the monastery of Plaka, where common workshops possibly operate, known also from their work in other churches of Epirus, such as the monastery of Tziora at Driskos and the monastery of Voutsa at Greveniti. The art of the wall paintings at the Dormition at Helleniko and at Saint Paraskevi at Patero is noteworthy. The first church was decorated by the painters Dimitrios and Georgios from the village Grammos of Kastoria, whereas the paintings of the second are attributed to the workshop of Konstantinos from Linotopi.en
