| heal.abstract | Following its liberation from the Turkish domination, Epirus was inevitably caught up in the party politics of the modem Greek State. In the various electoral contests held after the national “schism” the Epirots expressed their alignement with Venizelos as opposed to King Constantine, whom, however, they cherised and owed gratitude to for his successful command of the forces of liberation. Their newly gained freedom however was beset from the onset by the emergence of convulsions in the structure of their economy and society coupled with the irresolvable national issue of Nothem Epirus, still under Italian occupation, the fortunes of which were unforseeable. Such were the prevailing circumstances in which the “Epirotic Progressive Team” came into being and form the subject of the present article. Our intention is to provide data, which has only just come to light, on the founding, character, membership, declerations and overal character of this group. Its founding members were young men who proclaimed themselves as progressives. It appears that the creation of this group did not have any political repercussions. In fact, it was not feasable that it could bring about change in the existing state of affairs. In any case, these young people in their effort to provide a way out of the highly charged political impasse are praise worthy. | en |
