The 3s <-- n Rydberg transition of acetaldehyde has been studied by a two-color experiment (545 and 272.5 nm light) by means of a TOF mass spectrometer. The recorded spectra are in close resemblance to the known one-color (2R + 1) MPI spectra (364 nm). Nevertheless. the observed mass spectra are different. These differences are discussed in detail. Moreover, two-photon resonances of atomic carbon have been detected, indicating complete dissociation of some neutral fragments. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.en
