A two-arm spectrometer system using multiwire proportional chambers and plastic scintillators has been developed to investigate pion and photon absorption reactions on nuclei. The system is capable of positive particle identification, good solid angle and wide angular coverage with an energy resolution of 2.8% in ΔE/E. Such resolution is more than adequate to provide constraints on the reaction mechanism via missing mass and recoil momentum definitions.en
