The magnetic moments of the 521+, 721+, 921+ and 572+ states in 191 using the thin-foil transient field technique in iron. The g-factors of the 521+ and 721+ levels in nuclei have also been determined by the static field (IMPAC) method where the recoiling ion is brought to rest within polarised iron. The latter method confirmed the results of the transient field measurement. The lifetimes of the four levels in both isotopes have been measured in the recoil-distance technique in order to increase the accuracy of the deduced nuclear static and dynamic electromagnetic matrix elements. The present results, and in particular the ratio between the g-factors for the 721+ and the 521+ levels, could not be satisfactorily accounted for using the int boson-fermion model, the particle asymmetric rotor or the Nilsson models. An extended core-excitation model was, however, able to produce values consistent with experiment for the electromagnetic matrix elements connected with nine positive parity states in each of the two isotopes.en
