The essence of the « Trugrede » is to be found in the contrast between two levels of communication, one internal, directed to Tecmessa and the chorus, and one external, directed to the audience. The deceptive aspect of the speech refers exclusively to the internal communication with its lesser degree of awareness, while its true meaning is disclosed in the external communication, the audience having a fuller understanding of the situation.en
