A simple study of the quenching of excited Na and K by I2 is made within the framework of the multiple curve-crossing mechanism of Bauer, Fisher and Gilmore. The electron affinity of the halogen molecule is used as a variable parameter to derive the experimental results for the quenching cross-sections. From this variation the way by which the I2β†’ I-2 transition occurs is examined, and electron-transfer probabilities are calculated using the best fitting values of the electron affinity.en
