| heal.abstract | Το Αγρίνιο στα τέλη του 19ου αιώνα ήταν μια επαρχιακή κωμόπολη με ελάχιστες υποδομές. Λόγω της γεωγραφικής του θέσης άργησε να αναπτυχθεί σε σχέση με άλλες καπνοπαραγωγικές πόλεις όπως η Καβάλα ή ο Βόλος που διέθεταν φυσικά λιμάνια. Ωστόσο η γεωγραφική του θέση είναι και αυτή που αποτέλεσε προνόμιο στην πορεία με την διάνοιξη των δρόμων και των έργων υποδομής καθώς βρίσκονταν σε στρατηγική θέση και διευκόλυνε την εμπορία του προϊόντος του καπνού. Η ραγδαία επέκταση της καπνοκαλλιέργειας, συνυφασμένη με την εγκατάσταση των προσφύγων μετέβαλε ριζικά την οικονομία της πόλης και έπαιξε πρωταρχικό ρόλο στην μετέπειτα εξέλιξη της. Μαζί με την επέκταση των καπνομάγαζων-καπναποθηκών δημιουργήθηκαν και τα πρώτα συνδικαλιστικά και ιδεολογικά κινήματα. Παράλληλα η εξέλιξη αυτή θα δώσει και την ανάλογη ώθηση για την ανάπτυξη του τοπικού Τύπου καθώς και της πνευματικής ζωής γενικότερα. Ιδρύθηκαν διάφοροι σύλλογοι όπως το σωματείο καπνεργατών, ο μουσικός σύλλογος «Ορφεύς» και άλλοι, καθώς και αρκετά θέατρα και κινηματογράφοι. Σημαντική επίσης ήταν και η παρουσία των γυναικών με το σωματείο «Εργάνη Αθηνά» που διεκδικούσε τα δικαιώματα τους. Εκθέσεις βιβλίων και ζωγραφικής λάμβαναν μέρος στα θέατρα του Αγρινίου και οι οπερετικοί θίασοι διαδέχονταν ο ένας τον άλλον. Η κοινωνία του Αγρινίου άρχισε να εξελίσσεται με γρήγορους ρυθμούς και να υιοθετεί αστικά χαρακτηριστικά που οδηγούσαν στον εκμοντερνισμό της. Η ανάπτυξη της πρωτογενούς παραγωγής λοιπόν, και οι κοινωνικές συνέπειες της, καθώς και η αφύπνιση του συνδικαλιστικού κινήματος και οι διεκδικήσεις τους συμβάλουν προοδευτικά στην ανάπτυξη των υποδομών, του πολιτισμού και των γραμμάτων στην πόλη του Αγρινίου. Χτίζονται σχολεία, αεροδρόμιο, νοσοκομείο, θέατρα και κινηματογράφοι συνθέτοντας το σκηνικό μιας σύγχρονης πόλης με ισχυρή την παρουσία του Τύπου και ακμάζουσα πολιτιστική ζωή. | heal.abstract | At the end of the 19th century Agrinio was a suburban town with limited infrastructure. Due to its geographic location, it didn’t develop as rapidly as other tobacco production towns such as Kavala and Volos, which included harbors. On the contrary, its geographic position was consequently the main factor contributing to its development, with the creation of new streets and the urban infrastructure. In fact, Agrinio was located in a strategical location that made the tobacco products trade much easier. The rapid increase of the tobacco cultivation combined with the refugees resettlement, affected radically the town’s economy and its future development. Along with the extension of the tobacco shops and tobacco storages, the first trade union and ideological movements were established for the first time. This evolution was inevitable the right “push” for the creation of the local press and development of the everyday social life. Many local clubs were created during this period, such as the tobacco union, the music club “Orphephs” and others, as well as many theaters and cinemas. Furthermore, the “Ergani Athina” union, a club established by woman made its appearance in town while fighting for women rights. In the meantime, book and art exhibitions took place in the town’s theaters, followed by opera troupes, one after another. Agrinios society started to grow rapidly and adopt characteristics that lead to its modernization. Therefore, the growth of the primary production, as well as the social consequences and the establishment of the trade union and its accomplishments are contributing factors to Agrinio’s culture and art. New schools, airport, hospital, theaters and cinemas are built, composing a new, modern town with fierce local press and evolving social life.
