heal.abstractThe topic of this dissertation is the analysis of the arrangements in Manolis Chioti’s compositions. We are examining the roles and the way of performance of the instruments that take part in the recordings. Next we create a type of ensemble based on each instrument. Τhe main goal is the designation of the innovations that Manolis Chiotis suggested in his compositions and consolidated through his, constant renewed, ensemble. My two main methodological tools were the discographic research of the creator’s recording and the musicological analysis of his arrangements, taking samples for each instrument from his compositions throughout of all the chronological periods of his recordings (1938-1970). For the discographic research and documentation I relied on Vasiliki’s Iliadou dissertation Documentation of the Discography of Manolis Chiotis - Popular recordings in Athens. For the arrangement’s analysis methodology I relied on corresponding musicological manuals for Classical, Popular and Jazz music such as: The study of orchestration, Samuel Adler (1989), Analysing Popular Music, David Machin (2010) and Analysis of Jazz- A comprehensive approach, Laurent Gugny (2009).el
