| heal.abstract | Η κουμαριά είναι ένας από τους βασικούς αειθαλείς θάμνους της μεσογειακής ζώνης. Στη χώρα μας συναντώνται δύο είδη: η Κουμαριά (Arbutus unedo) και η Αγριοκουμαριά ή Ελαφοκουμαριά ή Γλιστροκουμαριά (Arbutus andrachne). Ανήκουν στην οικογένεια Ericaceae (Ερικίδες) στην οποία υπάγονται τα ρείκια και άλλα συγγενή φυτά. Το όνομα Κουμαριά προέρχεται από το αρχαίο Κόμαρος. Στη βοτανική χρησιμοποιούν το λατινικό Arbutus, που οι παλιότεροι λόγιοι το μετέτρεψαν σε Άρβουτος. Οι καρποί της κουμαριάς (Arbutus unedo) είναι μέτριας γευστικότητας, εξ’ ού και το όνομα unedo που σημαίνει «τρώγω ένα». Σύμφωνα με τον Πλίνιο το όνομα του είδους unedo, προέρχεται από το γεγονός ότι το κούμαρο είναι πιο ευχάριστο στο μάτι παρά στον ουρανίσκο. Τα ιδιαίτερα χαρακτηριστικά του φυτού το καθιστούν κατάλληλο για την χρήση του στην κηποτεχνία. Επίσης έχει φαρμακευτικές και άλλες ιδιότητες ενώ φημισμένο είναι το κουμαρόμελο και το τσίπουρο από κούμαρα. | el |
| heal.abstract | The strawberry tree is one of the main evergreen shrubs of the Mediterranean region. In Greece, two species are commonly found: the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) and the Greek strawberry tree, also known as wild strawberry tree (Arbutus andrachne). They belong to the Ericaceae family, which includes heathers and other related plants. The name “Koumaria” derives from the ancient Greek word “Komaros”. In botanical terminology, the Latin name Arbutus is used, which was later adapted into “Arvoutos” by earlier scholars. The fruits of the strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) have moderate palatability, hence the name unedo, which means “I eat only one”. According to Pliny, the name reflects the idea that the fruit is more appealing visually than in taste. The particular characteristics of the plant make it suitable for use in landscaping. In addition, it has medicinal and other beneficial properties, while products such as strawberry tree honey and traditional spirits produced from its fruits are well known. | en |
