heal.abstract | We present Molecular Dynamics (MD) results demonstrating the effect of the Poisson ratio (PR) changes, occurring upon compressive and tensile deformation, on the mechanical response Of Cu(46)Zr(54) metallic glass (MG). We found that the PR value increases under strain, the effect being more pronounced after yielding. These changes are related to microstructural modifications occurring at subnano scale and to the plasticity of the material. In addition, we found that the effect depends on the imposed strain rate, yielding lower plastic region and fracture strain at high deformation rates. These findings indicate that microstructure, intrinsic properties and mechanical response of MGs are closely related and can be used for the design of MGs exhibiting enhanced plasticity.
