Non-aqueous intercalation of montmorillonite with the water-sensitive species [Mn3O(CH3COO)(6)pyr(3)] was achieved with the use of nitromethane as solvent. The adsorption of the complex into the clay was studied photometrically and follows second order kinetics. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the complex is adsorbed in excess of the CEC of the clay. XRD measurements suggest that the complex is intercalated parallel to the sheets. The surface area of the fired solids is rather low, due the small height of the formed MnOx pillars.en
