Επίδραση της αναπνευστικής δυσχέρειας στο μεταβολισμό του φωσφόρου σε νεογνά και βρέφη (Doctoral thesis)

THE PURPOSE OF THE PRESENT WORK WAS TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF ANY TYPE OF RESPIRATORY DISTRESS (R.D) ON PHOSPHATE METABOLISM IN ERYTHROCYTES. THE STUDY INCLUDED 26 NEONATES WITH R.D AND 16 INFANTS WITH BRONCHIOLITIS. THREE BLOOD SAMPLES WERE TAKEN FROM EACH NEONATE AND INFANT. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE NEONATES WITH R.D HAD LOWER RI LEVELS BOTH INTRA AND EXTRACELLULAR THE FIRST SAMPLE, THAT CONTINUED TO DECREASE DURING STUDY. THE MEAN VALUES SAMPLE, THAT CONTINUED TO DECREASE DURING STUDY. THE MENA VALUES OF ATP AND 2,3 DPG WERE ALSO SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN CONTROLS DURING THE STUDY. IN THE INFANTS WITH BRONCHIOLITIS THE CONCENTRATIONS OF INTRA AND EXTRACELLULAR PI AND THOSE OF 2,3 DPG WERE ALSO FOUND LOWER THAN IN THE CORRESPONDING CONTROLS. THE VALUES OF ATP WERE SIMILAR TO THE CONTROLS. MANY FACTORS COULD INFLUENCE THE PHOSPHATE METABOLISM IN BOTH NEONATESAND INFANTS, SUCH AS THE RESPIRATORY AND METABOLIC ACIDOSIS, THE STRESS DUE TOTHE DIFFICULTY IN BREATHING, THE IMMATURITY OF THE KIDNEYS, ENDOCRINOLOGICAL FACTORS AND THE INSUFFICIENT FEEDING. IN CONCLUSION PI ADMINISTRATION IN NEONATES AND INFANTS WITH R.D MAY HELP TO CORRECT THE PHOSPHAT DISTURBANCES OBSERVED EXTRACELLULARLY AND INSIDE THE CELLS, LEADING TO BETTER OXYGENATION OF THE TISSUES AND PROBABLY TO BETTER MANAGEMENT OF THE DISORDER.
