his diploma thesis focuses on the analysis and recording of the European and national legislation of the last decades, which has shaped and formed a stable framework of ideological, political, educational and, consequently, administrative functioning of the highest level of education in the EU and in Greece. The University of Ioannina, as an educational institution, is a specific case for studying the way of its management. Thus, through the recording of empirical evidence from members of the particular educational community, the impact and degree of harmonization of the particular educational community can be examined on the way of coordination, comparing or harmonization of the European directives. The main question and aim of this project is to examine how the corresponding educational policy of Europe is experienced in the educational reality of higher education in this partcular institution and to outline the way in which the EU's educational policy is adopted. In order to achieve the study objective, a chronological inventory of EU policy development was initially selected from 1957 onwards, an in-depth analysis of the main European texts (Maastricht Treaty, Joint Declaration of the Sorbonne, Bologna Process, Copenhagen Process, Luxembourg Declaration) in direct comparison with the Greek legal texts and directives of the Ministry of Education, analyzing concepts and parameters which are subject to a critical point of view. The research questions (evaluation, mobility, merger of departments and their abolition, lifelong learning, competitiveness and comparability, ECTS, European Space for Hihger Education) were drawn from the official European texts in order to determine the implementation or not of a series of laws and directives, which ultimately define a specific ideological, political and economic policy. Methodologically, this research draws on its inno- logical and analytical tools from the sciences of Sociology and the Politics of Education, because the subject deals with specific issues of social and political dimensions. Into the research demo the qualitative approach was applied; the survey method was also used and the semi-structured interview used as a research tool. For the data process, the content thematic analysis was implemented. The findings of the research project prooved that the University of Ioannina, although it has entered into a convergence with European standards, has not yet developped those characteristics that would make it competitive and comparable to modern developments in an educationally internationalized environment.
