Future preschool and primary school teachers perceptions about educational robotics and STEM (Master thesis)
Educational Robotics combines elements of many sciences, covering all areas of STEM education. According to many researches it is considered to be an innovative learning methodology that develops the skills of students of all levels of education. It is teachers who will have to carry out educational robotics in their classroom. The present study investigates the attitudes of future pre-school and primary school education teachers, towards educational robotics and STEM. It also explores the perceptions of teachers on their ability to carry it out, as well as the obstacles they might encounter when implementing it. Finally, the study examines their perceptions on the impact educational robotics would have on their students. During the collection of data, conducted with a questionnaire, 307 future teachers of our country took part, from the Pedagogical Department of Preschool Education and the Pedagogical Department of Primary Education of the University of Ioannina. Also, in the present study, participated two teachers, who carried educational robotics out in their class, and were interviewed afterwards. The results of this research indicate the significant impact of teacher training on their ability and confidence to carry out educational robotics. Future teachers are also distinguished for their particularly positive attitude towards educational robotics, recognizing the positive impact on the development of students' skills while being aware of the obstacles they face when implementing it.
