Investigating of vocabulary learning strategies to foreigners (Master thesis)
The aim of this study is to investigate the strategies that learners of Greek as a second or foreign language in Center for the Study of the Hellenic Language and Culture, in the University of Ioannina, adopt in order to understand vocabulary in writing. During this study the learners answered a questionnaire. The results indicated that looking for clues in the word itself and the use of the meaning of other words in the same sentence play the most important role in understanding vocabulary. This conclusion probably reinforces the power of the morphological and syntagmatic axis in the sentence and confirms the holistic approach with all the matters that have to do with the teaching of vocabulary.
