An educational digital game for elementary physics (Master thesis)

This thesis presents the structural features of educational digital games, their contribution to education, a bibliographic review of digital educational games for physical and educational game design models. With the observation that most games in the bibliography do not document the educational game design model that they follow, the purpose of this work is to design and implement a digital educational game using the LM -GM educational game design model. The 21 activities of the developed educational game are focused on physics and are aimed at students of the 6th grade class.The developed educational game called"The Last Little Dinosaur" was evaluated by ninepostgraduate students that study at the branch of Natural Sciences in PP of the DPE of Ioannina in terms of the experience gained from the gameplay. The evaluation was conducted using a GEQ (Game Experience Questionnaire) on seven factors (challenge, competence, flow, negative effect, positive eff ect, sensory and imaginary presence and tension). The results of the exploratory study showed that the players had a positive attitude towards the game. More specifically, the game seemed to offer the appropriate challenges to the players and did not make them feel time pressure. Most of the players were able to complete the game, and felt that they completed it quickly. The majority of respondents seem ed focused onthe game, responding positively to the flow factor. Almost all respondents scored positive for the factor of positive effect as they felt satisfied and happy with the game.For the factor of negative effect,they said that they were not bothered, nor distracted from it as they were playing. The game did not create tension for the players and did not disappoint them. Finally, the players found it interestingand considered it well-designed and imaginative.
