Educator's views on creativity in greek kindergartens (Master thesis)

It is known that creativity appears in many areas of everyday life. All these years, many people have tried to give a definition that explains the importance of creativity. Additionally, creativity defined as a concept that incorporates competencies such as connections, innovation in problem solving, communication and collaboration (Mayasky, 2015·Ιsbell & Raines, 2013:2-4·Gregerson, Snyder, & Kaufman, 2013: 17· Tan, 2013:75·Starko, 2005:5). The purpose of this research is to explore teacher’s views on creativity in Greek kindergartens. Individual objectives of the research are: 1) exploring the elements that affect creativity, 2) the characteristics of the creative teacher, 3) the relationship between teacher- child and creativity, 4) team and creative behavior. A major limitation of research is the large number of sample. The sample of the survey consisted of 100 kindergartens of the districts of Ioannina, Trikala and Larissa. Questionnaire has been used to the collection of the data. The results of the survey showed, that the gender and age of children do not affect their creative expression. There are factors that positively affect creative behavior, such as effort, constant practice and children’s experiences. Conversely, negative factors are stress and time pressure in conducting a creative activity. Undoubtedly, interaction between child and educator is very important. In addition, the results showed the need for teacher’s education and guidance from administration of school. The contribution of the game is important, as it helps children to think creatively. Finally, it was observed that children work better in groups and they express creatively, than work alone.
