The evaluation of the process of a psycho-educational program on anger management and the strengthening of social skills of primary school students. (Master thesis)
The present study concerns the evaluation of the group processes of a psycho-educational programme consisting of eight meetings on anger management, and the strengthening of social skills of primary school students. The sample was represented by 56 students of B and C class, who attended two schools: in Ioannina andThesprotia respectively. The process variables studied were the understanding of the relationship with the coordinator and the therapeutic alliance. The participants completedthe Relationship Inventory of Barrett-Lennard, which assesses the understanding of coordinator attitudes (level of regard, empathy, unconditionality, congruence), twice: after the second meeting and after the eighth meeting respectively. Simultaneously, they completed the Psychoeducational Group Alliance Scale for Children (Brouzos, Vassilopoulos, Baourda, under review), at the end of each session: a scale that assesses the therapeutic alliance between the group-members and the coordinator.Results showed that the members’ understanding of their relationship with the coordinator increased significantly on all subscales of attitudes (level of regard, empathy, unconditionality, congruence) through the programme. The same stands for the therapeutic alliance as well, recording a statistically important increase. In addition, correlation analysis showed that there is a correlation between understanding of the relationship with the coordinator and the therapeutic alliance only at the beginning of the programme, whereas the correlations between the four subscales of understanding the relationship with the coordinator appeared both at the beginning and at the end of it. Last but not least, what is worth-mentioning is that these two process variables are related to the effectiveness of the programme.
