Poetry in kindergarten (Master thesis)
In the modern society, characterized by technological explosion and debunking of true values, the child of pre-school age has the right to become familiar with poetry, a right which, according to Shelley, is equated with the human right to life. "we lack poetry, the poetry of life", the poet writes. The subject of this study is the importance of poetry in the full development of the personality of a child and the suggested interventions for the utilization of poetry to the area of pre-school education. The first three chapters of this essay introduce the relationship between poetry and teaching and an approach to the concept of poetry through the work of the poets themselves is attempted. The project also focuses on the major contribution of poetry to the linguistic, aesthetic and socio-emotional growth of children and the selection criteria (subject-characteristics) of poems that can be approached in the kindergarten. The third chapter includes the research data concerning the study of the anthology of literary texts for kindergarten. The fourth and fifth chapters present teaching suggestions for the utilization of poems of folk and personal poetry, as well as a teaching scenario of poetry by the use of ict. The proposed activities aim at the cultivation of children's acoustic imagination, according to Eliot, of poetic ear, according to Seferis, or of poetic intelligence, according to Elytis and the mitigation of pre-school teachers’ hesitancy to incorporate poetry into daily activities in the kindergarten.
