Program management of loss in preschool children (Master thesis)
The loss in our daily lives is associated with something that the man is devoided of, and it can hold multiple meanings. Examples are the loss of friendship, loss after theft, loss meaning destruction and annihilation, divorce of parents, home loss, death and many other kinds of loss. All meanings of loss being observed range from failure, destruction and deprivation to the personal experiences of each i.e. the losses associated with the past, the present and the future that we are not able to express (Neimeyer, 2006). This paper is a study of the loss through the concept of death. The aim of the research is the construction of a pilot programme of prevention of loss management and its application in preschool children with a view to strengthen children mentally and emotionally in order to deal with events of loss in their lives. Death is a painful experience both in the lives of children and their families. We all wonder how they can reach out to children and talk about such an unbearable event. But according to surveys, adults face more difficulty than the children to talk about death. Children are able to pose questions around the issue, but it is difficult for adults to answer. All the previously mentioned have resulted in their inability to help a child who is experiencing grief (Koyrmoysi, 2013; Papadatou & Kamberi, 2013). For this reason a purpose-built material is created in order to help both children and educators as long as its implementation is achieved. There are definitely restrictions in the study concerning the small sample and the geographic limitation, elements that set certain limits on the research. The sample of the survey were 40 toddlers of urban and rural regions of Ioannina Prefecture to whom a questionnaire was given before and after the intervention in order to determine the effectiveness or not of the implementation of the pilot project. The data have been processed with the statistical program SPSS v22. Thus, one proposal that stands up to examination in this study is to introduce the loss management programs in the educational system in conjunction with the advisory support of teachers.
