Η μετασχηματίζουσα μάθηση μέσα από την τέχνη στη διαπολιτισμική εκπαίδευση (Master thesis)
The present postgraduate work concerns an experimental research application and is an innovation and an alternative original teaching proposal. This is a qualitative research that was implemented in a classroom of an Experimental Primary School as a research action plan in the form of a cross-curricular project and developed according to the stages proposed by the theory of Transformative Learning with Techniques Based on Art. Its planning and deployment took place in the context of a wider effort to prevent and combat violence in schools and to cultivate polite practices to reduce the phenomenon of violent and aggressive behavior of students in their interpersonal relationships. In particular, the purpose of this postgraduate thesis is to investigate whether the implementation of alternative and innovative practices is effective in intercultural education of elementary school pupils. Specifically, the implementation of Transformative Learning Theory of Mezirow through the emancipatory / transformational dimension of Art is studied in elementary school pupils. The main objectives of the research are to explore the possibility and the extent to which students can critically reflect on social issues and transform their assumptions and stereotypical way of thinking through their contact with works of art in the educational process. The approach of the concept of "diversity" is pursued through the emancipatory dimension of Art as an alternative educational tool in intercultural education and explores the possibility and the extent to which Art can promote the critical thinking and creative imagination of pupils and put into question the existing and adopted perceptions and beliefs in order to transform assumptions and stereotypes regarding "the different," promoting acceptance and respect for "the other " and thus the elimination of racist behaviors. The thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical and the research. The theoretical part initially identifies the concepts of transformative learning and critical thinking. Then the exploitation of the above theories and their contribution to the intercultural education of elementary school pupils are studied to recognize "diversity" and to transform prejudices and stereotypes. Finally, the role and importance of the transformational / emancipatory dimension of Art is described as a tool for the development of students' critical thinking and the stochastic process of transforming their assumptions. The research part initially sets out the methodological framework according to which the research was designed and implemented. The following is a detailed description of the application of the survey. Finally, the results of the survey are presented, the results are discussed, the conclusions are drawn up and proposals are submitted for extension of the research proposal or for further research on issues that have arisen during the conduct of the research process.
